Kejriwal and Sisodia Discharged in Delhi Liquor Policy Case

Court Finds Insufficient Evidence

In a significant legal development, Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia have been discharged in the alleged Delhi liquor policy case. The court ruled that the prosecution failed to present sufficient material to frame charges of corruption and criminal conspiracy linked to the 2021–22 excise policy.

The investigation was conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which had alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped liquor policy. According to the agency, certain provisions were designed to favour specific private players. However, the court observed that the evidence placed on record was not strong enough to establish even a prima facie case.

Leaders Maintain Innocence

Both leaders had consistently denied the allegations, describing the case as politically motivated. Sisodia, who held the excise portfolio at the time the policy was introduced, had resigned during the course of the investigation. Kejriwal, who served as Delhi’s Chief Minister during the controversy, had also faced questioning in connection with the matter.

Political and Legal Impact

The discharge means that no trial will proceed against them in this case at this stage. Legal experts explain that a discharge indicates the court did not find adequate grounds to formally frame charges.

For the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the ruling marks a crucial moment after months of political debate and legal scrutiny surrounding its top leadership. The development is likely to influence the broader political narrative in the coming months.
