Constitution Amendment Bill Rejected in Lok Sabha: Govt Fails to Secure Two-Third Majority, Rahul Gandhi Attacks BJP

A major setback for the government as the Constitution Amendment Bill failed to pass in the Lok Sabha after it could not secure the required two-thirds majority. The development has triggered a fresh political storm, giving the opposition an opportunity to corner the ruling party.

Unlike ordinary bills, a constitutional amendment requires a special majority at least two-thirds of the members present and voting. However, during the voting process, the government fell short of this crucial mark, leading to the rejection of the bill.

Reacting strongly to the development, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a sharp attack on the BJP. He alleged that the party is “cowardly” and often hides behind the armed forces. Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi described him as a “magician” whose reality, he claimed, has now been exposed.

His remarks have further intensified the political atmosphere in the country. While the BJP has not issued an official statement yet, several party leaders informally dismissed his comments as irresponsible and politically motivated.

Political analysts believe that the rejection of such a crucial bill could become a key issue in upcoming elections. The opposition is likely to project it as a failure of the government, while the ruling party may attempt to defend its position before the public.

This episode once again highlights the importance of numbers in Parliament, especially when it comes to passing critical legislation like constitutional amendments. With tensions rising, more political confrontations are expected in the days ahead.
