Big Battle in West Bengal: Suvendu Adhikari May Challenge Mamata Banerjee Again in Assembly Elections
The upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal are once again expected to witness a high-profile political battle between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari. Political discussions have intensified after reports that Adhikari could contest from two constituencies in the upcoming polls.
The rivalry between Mamata Banerjee and Suvendu Adhikari is not new. In the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, the two leaders faced each other in the high-profile contest from the Nandigram constituency. That election turned into one of the most closely watched battles in the country.
In the end, Suvendu Adhikari managed to defeat Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram by a narrow margin of just over 1,900 votes. Despite the defeat in that particular seat, Mamata Banerjee’s party, the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), went on to win a clear majority in the state assembly and formed the government again.
Now, as the next election approaches, the possibility of another Mamata Banerjee vs Suvendu Adhikari contest is creating fresh excitement in West Bengal politics. If Adhikari contests from two seats and one of them brings him face-to-face with Mamata Banerjee again, it could once again become the biggest political showdown of the election.
Political observers believe the upcoming battle could attract national attention just like the previous one.
