In a major political move ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has released its candidate list for 291 out of the state’s 294 constituencies, keeping just three seats aside for its alliance partners.
The list clearly shows that the party, led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, is trying to balance continuity with change. While 135 sitting MLAs have been given tickets again, a significant number 74 have been dropped. This decision is widely being linked to growing anti-incumbency sentiments in several constituencies.
At the same time, the party has not completely sidelined all its experienced leaders. Around 15 MLAs have been shifted to different constituencies, which indicates a more strategic approach rather than a complete overhaul. The reshuffle suggests that TMC is carefully recalibrating its strategy based on ground-level feedback and electoral calculations.
One of the biggest highlights of the announcement is Mamata Banerjee’s decision to contest once again from the high-profile Bhabanipur seat. The constituency has been her stronghold and is expected to remain a key focus during the campaign.
Overall, the candidate list reflects TMC’s attempt to stay ahead in a highly competitive election. By dropping underperforming MLAs while retaining trusted faces, the party appears to be sending a clear message performance matters. With the battle lines now drawn, all eyes will be on how this strategy plays out on the ground in the coming weeks.
