NDA Locks Tamil Nadu Seat Deal, BJP Gets a Noticeable Boost
With elections in Tamil Nadu getting closer, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has finally worked out its seat-sharing formula, putting an end to days of speculation. The agreement lays out how the alliance partners will divide constituencies as they prepare for a crucial electoral battle in the state.
As per the final arrangement, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) will contest 178 seats, keeping its position as the main force within the alliance. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will fight on 27 seats this time, which is a clear increase from the 20 seats it contested in the last election. Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) has been given 18 seats, while Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TPV) will contest 11.
What stands out in this deal is BJP’s expanded share. While the party has traditionally struggled to gain strong ground in Tamil Nadu, this increase suggests it is slowly trying to build a deeper presence in the state. Even though seven extra seats may not seem massive, politically it shows that BJP is pushing for a bigger role within the alliance.
At the same time, AIADMK holding on to a large chunk of 178 seats shows it is still calling the shots in the NDA’s Tamil Nadu strategy. The party appears focused on maintaining its core support while also keeping its allies in the fold.
Experts believe this seat-sharing balance could help NDA target different voter groups more effectively. BJP may try to attract urban and first-time voters, while PMK and TPV could strengthen the alliance’s reach in specific regions. Now that the seat formula is clear, attention will shift to candidate announcements and campaign intensity, as Tamil Nadu heads toward a high-stakes political contest.
