Kerala Assembly Election 2026: Rahul Gandhi Announces 5 Guarantee Schemes Ahead of Congress vs LDF Battle

As Kerala prepares for the Assembly Election 2026 later this year, political activity in the state has started picking up pace. The upcoming election is expected to see a direct contest between the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) and the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF). In an effort to strengthen its campaign, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has announced five major “guarantee schemes” aimed at supporting women, youth and senior citizens. These promises are likely to become an important part of the party’s election strategy.

Free Bus Travel for Women and Support for Students
Among the key announcements, Congress has promised free travel for women in government buses across Kerala. The party says this step is meant to make daily travel easier and more affordable for working women and students. Another important promise is a monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 for female college students. Congress leaders believe this support will help more young women continue their higher education without financial difficulties.

Higher Pension and Better Healthcare Coverage
The party has also proposed increasing the social security pension to ₹3,000 per month. This move is aimed at providing stronger financial support to senior citizens and people from economically weaker sections. In addition, Congress has promised medical insurance coverage of up to ₹25 lakh for families, saying it will help people deal with the rising cost of healthcare and medical treatment.

Loan Support for Youth
To encourage young people to start businesses or pursue self-employment, Congress has also proposed providing loans of up to ₹5 lakh for youth. Political observers believe that these five guarantee schemes could play a significant role in shaping the campaign narrative as the Congress and the ruling LDF prepare for a closely watched electoral contest in Kerala.
