Has India established itself as a global power?

In recent years, India has made significant strides on the global stage, exerting influence on world politics and achieving successes in economics, technology, defense, and space missions, even with limited resources. The world views India as a rising superpower. But with this comes questions about whether India has truly become a global power or whether there’s still more to come.

Rising influence on the global stage

India’s diplomatic presence appears to have grown significantly. As India hosts the G20 Summit in 2023, it has positioned itself as a bridge between developed and developing nations. It has taken a strong stance on key global issues such as climate change, digital governance, terrorism, and international trade.

From a defense perspective, India has the largest army and rapidly growing military capabilities. Through strategic alliances with countries such as the United States, Russia, France, Japan, and Australia, India’s role in regional and global security is expanding.

The country’s economic growth has been impressive, with a GDP of $3.7 trillion, making it the fifth-largest economy in the world. Digital infrastructure, renewable energy, and manufacturing capabilities have attracted foreign investment.

Areas where India still lags

Even after so achievments, India is facing tough challenges and the same things are becoming obstacles in becoming a superpower

     1.Poverty and Inequality:

The majority of India’s population still struggles with poverty, inflation, and low-quality healthcare and education. India ranks among the lowest in the human development index and shows wide disparities in quality of life.

  1. Infrastructure difference:
While metros and tier-1 cities are growing well, rural India lags behind in basic infrastructure like continuous electricity, clean water, good roads.
  2. Bureaucratic processes and Corruption:
Corruption is a persistent problem that affects governance efficiency and public trust in government.
  3. Environmental Care:
India ranks among the most polluted countries. Issues such as air pollution, water scarcity, and forest clearing threaten sustainability and public health.
  4. Education and Innovation:
Although India produces a high number of tech graduates, its research and innovation ecosystem still lags behind that of top global countries.

Conclusion: Way to superpower still in progress

India has undoubtedly emerged as a global player with immense potential. Its technical standing, economic reforms, and technological advancements show that it is moving in the right direction. However, before India can claim superpower status, it must address basic issues such as poverty, infrastructure, government challenges, inequality, and the judicial system.

So far, the journey has been impressive, but it’s time for destinations.
