Ashok Kharat Case: Who is Rupali Chakankar? NCP Leader Resigns After Link With Ashok Kharat

The controversy surrounding self-styled godman Ashok Kharat has now taken a political turn, with senior NCP leader Rupali Chakankar stepping down from her posts after her name surfaced in connection with the case.

Chakankar, a prominent leader of the Nationalist Congress Party, has long been considered a close confidante of late NCP Head Ajit Pawar. She held significant responsibilities, including serving as the President of the Maharashtra State Women Commission and heading the party’s women’s wing in the state.

The issue gained attention after a video began circulating widely on social media. In the clip, Chakankar is allegedly seen taking part in a ritual with Kharat, including washing his feet. The video quickly drew criticism and raised questions, especially because Kharat is already under investigation in a serious sex scandal and other alleged illegal activities.

Often referred to as a “Bhondu Baba,” Kharat has been facing increasing scrutiny from law enforcement agencies. The investigation is gradually expanding, and there are indications that central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate, along with the Income Tax Department, may also step in to examine possible financial links.

With pressure mounting from both the opposition and within political circles, Chakankar chose to resign from her positions. The move is being seen as an attempt to limit political damage, though she has not yet publicly responded in detail to the controversy.

The developments have added a new political dimension to the case, making it more than just a criminal investigation. As agencies continue their probe, there is growing curiosity over whether more connections will emerge and how far the case could go in the coming days.

The issue has sparked a political storm in Maharashtra, with opposition leaders demanding a thorough investigation and accountability. Meanwhile, the NCP has maintained distance, signaling that the matter is under serious consideration.
