The long-pending issue surrounding the capital of Andhra Pradesh has finally been resolved after the Parliament passed a crucial bill granting legal status to the state’s capital. The development brings clarity to years of uncertainty that had slowed administrative and infrastructure progress.
The newly passed legislation formally recognizes the capital framework, allowing the state government to move forward with development projects and governance without legal hurdles. Officials say this decision will boost investor confidence and accelerate stalled projects in the region.
Reacting to the development, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu welcomed the move and said it marked a “new beginning” for the state. He emphasized that the legal backing from Parliament would help in building a strong administrative and economic center.
However, Naidu also took a sharp dig at the opposition party, YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), accusing it of adopting a “lenient and ineffective approach” during its tenure. He alleged that the previous government failed to take decisive steps on the capital issue, leading to delays and confusion.
“The state has suffered due to indecision and lack of clarity in the past. We are now committed to fast-tracking development and ensuring that the capital becomes a symbol of growth,” Naidu said during a press briefing.
Leaders from YSRCP, however, have rejected the criticism, stating that their policies were aimed at balanced regional development and not limited to a single capital-focused model. Political analysts believe the issue is likely to remain a key point of debate in state politics, especially with development and governance at the center of public discourse.
With the legal status now in place, all eyes are on how quickly the government can translate this decision into visible progress on the ground.
