Amit Shah Says Operation Naxalmukt Bharat 99% Successful, India Set to Become Naxal-Free by 2026
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said that the Centre’s ambitious Operation Naxalmukt Bharat is now in its final phase, claiming that the mission has achieved around 99% success so far.
The operation, which was launched with the goal of making India free from Naxal influence by March 31, 2026, has seen rapid progress over the past few years. Speaking about the campaign, Shah said that nearly 96% of Naxalite elements have been eliminated, while the remaining 4% have been pushed into a weakened and inactive state.
He added that the remaining insurgents are now struggling to survive, indicating that Naxalism in India is on the verge of collapse. According to him, security forces have worked with strong coordination and clear strategy, which has made this progress possible.
One of the biggest highlights of the operation is the situation in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, which was once known as the stronghold of Naxal activity. Shah stated that the region is now effectively free from Naxal control, marking a major shift on the ground.
While reviewing the success, the Home Minister also criticized previous governments, saying their approach towards Naxalism was slow and lacking firmness, which allowed the issue to continue for years. Criticizing what he described as their lenient and ineffective approach toward tackling Naxalism. He suggested that the lack of decisive action in the past allowed the problem to persist for decades.
With just a small fraction of Naxal presence remaining, the government appears confident of meeting its deadline. If the current momentum continues, India could soon achieve its long-standing goal of becoming completely free from Naxalism.
The near-completion of Operation Naxalmukt Bharat signals a turning point in India’s internal security efforts. If the remaining challenges are addressed as projected, the country may soon witness the complete eradication of Naxal influence, fulfilling a long-standing national objective.
