Maharashtra CM Fadanvis Announces Naxal-Free Maharashtra State, Claims 99% Success in Anti-Naxal Drive
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has announced that the state is now almost completely free from Naxal influence, marking a significant milestone in its internal security efforts. The announcement comes as part of the Centre’s broader Operation Naxalmukt Bharat, which aims to eliminate Naxalism across the country.
Maharashtra has long been considered one of the key states affected by Naxal activity, particularly in districts like Gadchiroli, Chandrapur, Bhandara, Nanded, and Gondia. These regions, especially Gadchiroli, were once seen as strongholds of left-wing extremism. However, according to the Chief Minister, the situation has now changed dramatically.
Fadnavis stated that around 99% of Naxal presence in the state has been eliminated, thanks to sustained operations by security forces and better coordination between state and central agencies. He credited the success to a combination of strict security measures and development initiatives aimed at improving conditions in previously affected areas.
Officials say that infrastructure growth, improved connectivity, and welfare schemes have played an important role in weakening the influence of Naxal groups. As a result, local support for such activities has declined significantly over time.
The announcement is being seen as a major achievement for both the state and the Centre, as Maharashtra was considered strategically important in the fight against Naxalism. With most of the affected districts now largely free from insurgent activity, the government is hopeful of maintaining long-term peace and stability in the region.
While a small presence may still remain in isolated pockets, authorities believe it is only a matter of time before Maharashtra becomes completely Naxal-free, aligning with the national goal of ending Naxalism in India.
